OK, OK!, OKAYYYY!\u00a0 Relax\u2026breathe\u2026it\u2019s almost over\u2026<\/p>\n

But before the torment ends next Tuesday, let\u2019s circle back to where we started and see how well our political prognostications held up. \u00a0Back in January, we played \u201cWhat\u2019s in a Name?\u201d with the leading political candidates. Let\u2019s see how well we did.<\/p>\n

First, here\u2019s what we deduced about the Democratic candidate HILLARY DIANE RODHAM CLINTON:\u00a0 HILLARY is from the Latin \u201chilarious\u201d meaning \u201ccheerful.\u201d DIANE refers to Diana, the competitive virgin huntress, icy goddess of the moon. RODHAM is a bit of bummer, a combination of \u201cgrod\u201d meaning \u201cdirty\u201d, and \u201cham\u201d meaning \u201ctown,\u201d resulting in \u201cdirty town.\u201d And CLINTON? Though it conjures up memories of governors and generals, it literally means \u201cfenced settlement.\u201d What\u2019s it all signify? \u201cHard-driving, giggling, sexually ambivalent woman, with dirt in her background, married into captivity.\u201d<\/p>\n

The verdict:: Not a bad encapsulation, though we failed to include \u201cduplicitous,\u201d \u201copaque,\u201d \u201cparanoid,\u201d or any reference to Benghazi, Benghazi, or even Benghazi.<\/p>\n

And now the, um, ah, well, the, ah, so-called Republican candidate DONALD JOHN TRUMP: DONALD is a mighty Scottish \u201cruler of the world.\u201d JOHN comes from Hebrew and means, \u201cYahweh is gracious.\u201d And TRUMP is the bridge card that can, out of nowhere, defeat all others, and is also a shortening of \u201ctrumpet.\u201d In full combination, the name clearly means, \u201cMan who was given everything by God, has unfair advantages, and uses them to flamboyantly lord over everyone.\u201d Bonus meaning: his true family name, DRUMPF is a Germanization of the French, \u201cTriomph,\u201d meaning, \u201cEveryone else is a loser. SAD.\u201d<\/p>\n

The verdict: A blunt and mostly accurate assessment, but we completely whiffed on \u201ctiny, groping hands,\u201d \u201cpsychopathic narcissist,\u201d or anything related to a syno\"trump-clinton\"<\/a>nym for \u201ccat.\u201d<\/p>\n

So there it is, the 2016 campaign in a nutshell. However an even more succinct summary popped up today on the front page of CNN.com.\u00a0 A simple black banner, empty except for the text, \u201cThis political ad has been trashed thanks to HEFTY.\u201d It\u2019s perfect\u2026but what took them so long?<\/p>\n
