The recent recall in the pet food industry has caused a lot of people to think about what goes into those cans.\u00a0 Menu Foods – the company responsible for the faulty product – works as a sub-contractor for many of the industry\u2019s pet food giants. \u00a0While scrolling through the list of recalled varieties, a lot of people were shocked to learn that the expensive brands are made in the same factories \u2013 and perhaps with similar specifications \u2013 as the bargain basement brands.\u00a0 Which means their designer labradoodles, feasting on high-priced Iams and Eukanuba, are eating essentially the same Crap as the junkyard dog up the street. \u00a0They\u2019re just paying a lot more for it.<\/p>\n
Rule 16A has a converse, Rule 16B:\u00a0 Don\u2019t discount, or it looks like Crap. \u00a0For example, Anheuser-Busch launched Budweiser Select as a top-shelf premium beer. \u00a0Made from a recipe of \u201ctwo row barley, impeccably roasted specialty malts, and a hand-picked blend of the finest American and Bavarian hops,\u201d Bud Select has been supported by a monster ad campaign, featuring Jay-Z and Danica Patrick, on the Super Bowl and the Academy Awards.\u00a0 They figure everyone will \u201ctrade up\u201d for a promise of higher quality. \u00a0The trouble is, the marketing geniuses at A-B gave Select the same price point as regular Bud. \u00a0So hoity-toity consumers have seen Budweiser Select for what it is: \u00a0Crap.\u00a0 Sales are in the crapper.<\/p>\n
Yep, a Cadillac is way better than a Chevy. \u00a0Martha Stewart makes a real nice can of paint. \u00a0And L\u2019Oreal costs more, but heck, you\u2019re worth it.<\/p>\n
