5.20.11 A Prom Ride to Relish
For a truly memorable prom night, you need a sweet ride.
But that was hardly the concern of Dallas teenager Ben Ross, when he almost trashed his prom dreams completely. He’d scored a date, and reserved a tux, and was getting ready for the big night. But then, last March, he went out on his motorcycle, laid it down on the pavement, slid under a truck, and was dragged beneath the wheels.
He woke up in the emergency room with his mom by his side. He wasn’t going to die, but it was uncertain whether he’d recover in time for the prom. To help keep his spirits up and give him something to look forward to, she asked him what would be his dream car for the big night ahead. He told her. And she decided right there that she was going to get it for him.
She tried to contact the car’s owner, to no avail. So she launched an online campaign on Facebook to try to convince the owner to lend her son the car. A lot of teenagers logged in and supported the cause. The car’s owner took notice, was charmed by their persistence, and relented. Okay, Ben could have the car.
Ben got better. Ben got ready. The big night arrived. And on Saturday night, April 31, Ben and his date, and several of their friends, rolled into their high school prom in style.
Aboard the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile. Sweet.
